Berkshire Local Nature Partnership
Bringing Berkshire together to put nature back
We are the partnership of councils, conservation organisations, landowners, businesses and community groups working to reverse the decline of nature across Berkshire. We oversee the delivery of the county's Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Berkshire's plan for nature, in one place
Berkshire's Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is the county's statutory plan for nature. Published in October 2025, it identifies the habitats and species that matter most here, sets out the practical measures that would help them recover, and — crucially — maps where those measures should happen.
The strategy is one of 48 covering the whole of England. Together they form a national Nature Recovery Network. Berkshire's was prepared by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead as responsible authority, with the county's five other councils and Natural England, and drew on the evidence, fieldwork and local knowledge held across this partnership.
Writing a strategy is the easy half. The Local Nature Partnership exists for the other half: turning it into work on the ground, on farms, in river valleys, on road verges and in back gardens, and keeping track of whether it is making a difference.
- 1,263 km² of Berkshire covered by the strategy, from chalk downland to urban greenspace
- 166 km² already identified as particularly important for biodiversity
- 299 km² mapped as areas that could become important, with the right action
- 6 Berkshire councils working to a single, shared plan for nature

The strategy, told as a story
See where nature recovery is planned near you
The strategy runs to hundreds of pages and a map with thousands of polygons. Most people do not need all of it — they need the part that applies to them.
So we have built a guided version. Tell it whether you are a resident, a landowner, a developer or a council officer, and it walks you through Berkshire's priorities on the map, starting with what matters most from where you stand.
Nature recovery in Berkshire needs more hands
Land to manage differently, evidence to gather, policies to shape, funding to unlock. If you own or manage land, work for one of our member organisations, or simply want to help, there is a way in.
